Goodwood: Art and Architecture, Sport and Family Book by Rosemary BairdGoodwood: Art and Architecture, Sport and Family Book by Rosemary Baird
Ref: 1986
Goodwood: Art and Architecture, Sport and Family is a lively account of the family history of the Dukes of Richmond and of their home at Goodwood, the first time the story has been fully written by an expert art historian. While covering the intricacies of the art collection, shown in wonderful new photographs by Clive Boursnell, the book is designed to be entertaining and amusing for the general reader, and is conveniently laid out for those who wish to track particular themes, including the various sports. It provides in particular a great panorama of eighteenth century cultural life in both London and Sussex - an essential read for anyone interested in the arts and the aristocracy in Georgian England.

About Rosemary Baird:
Rosemary Baird was educated both at Cambridge, where she read English, and at Oxford, where she did postgraduate studies in the History of Art. She also studied in Paris at the Ecole du Louvre. Prior to her appointment as Curator of the Goodwood Collection in 1996, she worked mostly as a lecturer in art and architectural history. She was also a Research Consultant in the Department of British Paintings at Sotheby's and an Assistant Keeper in the Department of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Her first, and widely-acclaimed book, Mistress of the House: Great Ladies and Grand Houses 1670-1830 was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 2003.
